The Directorate General of Trade Remedies (DGTR) has made the recommendation to impose a definitive anti-dumping duty on melamine import from china to offset the alleged injury to domestic producers caused by dumping. The recommendation has been made after the completion of Anti-dumping investigation concerning the imports of Melamine,originating in or exported from China PR.
As per report approximately 250-400 US dollar per metric tonne anti Dumping duty has been recommended from different import companies originated from China.
The imposition of definitive anti-dumping duty on Melamine will increase its cost up to Rs 20-25 per Kg, which will directly affect the input cost of laminate & other panel products as the domestic laminate producers procured a large quantity of Melamine from Overseas supplier for resin production, as per expert.
Assessing the impact of ADD on Melamine over the input cost of laminate & plywood products, submissions have also been made by the Indian Laminates Manufacturer’s Association and Federation of Indian Plywood & Panel Industry. A month back both ILMA & FIPPI registered their apprehensions on the imposition of anti-dumping duty on the Melamine as it will significantly trigger the input cost of the laminate.
The domestic laminate producers has made their submission notifying that Melamine imports are not displacing domestic production but are necessary to meet domestic demand.
