BIS Raided 3 Plywood Shops in Ludhiana, Seized Over 1,000 Boards with Fake ISI Mark

As per BIS Chandigarh’s Director and Head, Vishal Tomar, all three shops are located at Samrala Chowk and sell plywood at wholesale rates. He further stated that bills have also been collected from the shopkeepers showing where they purchase their stock from.

In a recent strict action, taken by BIS against the units, selling fake and counterfeiting plywood and panel products, the Chandigarh branch of BIS has raided three such retail shops selling fake ISI marked Plywood in Ludhiana plywood market

As per the reports, about 1350 fake ISI-marked plywood sheets were seized from 3 shops at Samrala Chowk, Ludhiana under the directions of Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) Chandigarh team.

As per BIS Chandigarh’s Director and Head, Vishal Tomar, all three shops are located at Samrala Chowk and sell plywood at wholesale rates. He further stated that bills have also been collected from the shopkeepers showing where they purchase their stock from. The factories where this plywood is being manufactured will also be sealed. A total of 1350 plywood sheets from all three shops have been seized and sealed.

Tomar mentioned that three separate teams were formed for this raid which included senior BIS officers Abhishek Nat Kumar, Saurabh Verma, Ajay Maurya, Kushagra Tar Jindal, Talika, and Harsh Sonkar. 

BIS Chandigarh’s Director confirmed that fake ISI-marked plywood was seized from three shops. Earlier such BIS action were reported in Mumbai, and other places as well.

In these shops, fake ISI-marked plywood was being sold without BIS certification. Offenders may face up to two years in prison, a fine of not less than 2 lakh, or both. BIS has warned the public that it is extremely important to verify the authenticity of the ISI mark when purchasing any product.

Fake marks can pose a risk to both your safety and health. BIS is proactively chasing down the entities that are still engaged in malpractices of selling fake plywood and panel products. Besides that BIS has also appealed to all the customers to check the authenticity of plywood before purchasing.
