Wood based particle boards capacity to rise by 20% in 2023

Indian Wood based Particle boards manufacturing is steadily growing in India. Despite of many challenges faced due to supply of machineries from China, the sector is growing. The ply reporter finds that, India will be adding around 2000 cubic meters of new production capacity during 2023.

Post Pandemic, Particle boards sector is growing on fast pace specially with jump in profit margin during phase of almost nil imports. Despite There were more that 20 queries and discussions happening for setting up wood particle boards unit but the covid led constraint on machineries deal from China, and licence issue in UP had discouraged new plants during 2020 and 2021. But again in year 2022-23, better prospect of new wood based particle boards plants in India is clearly visible.

In Gujarat, Surat based Krifor Industries has started PB production recently. Gmica group is about to begin production by January month. Gandhidham based Lohit Boards to start production this year too, besides two more plants are expecting to begin wood based particle boards production in Gujarat. Ply reporter finds, Gujarat alone is going to add 1000 cbm plus daily of Wood PB capacity. Amazon wood’s Haryana based Particle Boards plant is about to begin production. A new plant in West Bengal is also starting where as Kerala is equally emerging as hub for Particle Boards manufacturing where 6-7 new plants are going to be set up, in which 1-2 plants are expected to begin production this year.

The Ply Reporter estimates suggest, on one side when indian manufacturing is fighting timber supply challenges, year 2023-24 will be significant year for new wood based Particle Board and cumulative indian capacity would be doubling by 2024 compared to present capacity. The entry of Merino and Greenlam Industries in Particle Boards manufacturing in big scale would be expected to bring the sector more organise, high quality products and innovation in designs with new products categories.
